We will begin learning how to do the Daily 5 Literacy within the next week or two. The Daily 5 is a Literacy center program with Guided Reading instruction from me. The Daily 5 includes: 1. Read to Self  2. Read to Someone 3. Listen to Reading 4. Word Work (Memory/Sight Word work 5. Work on Writing.

Math: We will continue Topic 1: Sorting & Classifying. What is the same/alike…What is different… Vocabulary for this first topic is: same, alike, different, sort, does not belong, sorting rule. Please work with your child so they know & understand these words/terms. I will do my best to explain here at school, but they need reinforcement form you, at home. Thank you.

Religion: We see God in the World Around Us-Creation!

Humanities: We will continue to learn about Creation & the seven days in which God created the world.

Star of the Week for September  30, 2019

A couple of times a month we will have a Star of the Week student in our classroom. This entitles the student to be the line-leader, to lead the morning calendar routine, to share/tell all about him/herself by filling in a poster. This will come home about a week or so before they are the star. A letter will also be included with the poster explaining all the special things the student will have an opportunity to do.

Thank You for Coming to Curriculum Night:

Thank you for coming to “Curriculum Night” held on September 12th. There was a lot of information shared & many questions answered. If I can be of help to you, or you have any other questions, or just forgot about something we discussed, please feel free to contact me. My email is aruhnke@stjeromeschool.org or send in a note in your child’s Take-Home-folder, or give me a call at 651-771-8494.

Memory/Sight Words:

Your child will have approximatley four(4) Memory/Sight words to learn each week. We will begin learning them around the 4th week of school. Memory/Sight words are words we find in every sentence we read. Students must know these words to be able to read a sentence. Students should memorize these words, NOT sound them out. Please practice these words every day, both reading them and spelling them.

Scholastic Book Orders:

I reccomend the Leveled books A-D. They usually come in a package deal of about 12 books for $12-$24 dollars. Your child will be reading at these levels beginning this school year, and you will need to have these leveled books for your child. The September book flyer coming home today. All Orders are due by Sept. 24th. If you would like to place an order, the easiest way to do so is online. Use code RGVYW. If you would rather fill in your order using the flyer, please send it back to school with your child with a check or cash for the total. Thank you!!
