Ruhnke Review for 4/20/20

Today is “Honor a Healthcare/First Responder” Dress as a doctor, nurse, or first responder of your choice.

Wednesday is “Pick-Up, Drop-Off” Day. Please bring any/all work your Kindergartener has done (except the “Groves” yellow & white handwriting book), to the school for me. Come either between 9-11am or 4-6pm. Thank you!

Scholastic Book Orders:

The April book flyers were sent home in your child’s Take-Home Folder on Wednesday. Orders are due by Friday, April 24th. On the flyers, it says the due date is April 22nd, but I have changed that to be April 24th. If you would like to place an order; the easiest way to do so is online. Use code RGVYW. Thank you!

We are Learning About:

Reading: Read 20 minutes daily. Keep filling in the April Reading Log each day. You can turn it in at the end of April at another “Drop-Off” Day.

Phonics/Groves: Please make sure your child is watching the lesson videos of the “Rhyming” or “Groves.” Phonics (M, T, Th, F). The children need to be “acting” (hand gestures) out what we do together & saying the things I tell them too. Also, doing the work in the workbook along with me. Use the “pause” button on your computer to stop the video so that your child has time to write.

Writing: Your child should be writing one-two stories each week. Use the brown book that says, “Writing” on it. They should only use pencil (even for the picture), and they should only be given at the most two minutes to draw the picture. Remind your child they should use a capital at the beginning of the sentence and there should be a period at the end of the sentence. Also, they should have a “finger space” between each word. Parents, you are NOT aloud to spell any words for them. They should “tap” out the word and “stretch” it out, then write the word as they hear the sounds. They know how to do this.

Math: We will continue Topic 14: Time. Vocabulary: morning, afternoon, evening, day, night, more time, less time, before, after, first, next, last, clock, hands, face, o’clock, hour

Religion: We will learn about ”Jesus Says, “Come Follow Me.”

Humanities: We will learn about, “The Reign of Tutankhamun”

Science: Please have your child watch one or two videos each week on the Scholastic site (below). Make sure your child is clicking on the comprehension questions, etc.

Star of the Day

One student (puppet) will be the “Star of the Day.” They will get to help with the morning calendar routine!

Memory/Sight Words

Memory/Sight words are words we find in every sentence we read. Students must know these words to be able to read a sentence. Students should memorize these words, NOT sound them out. Please practice these words every day, both reading them and spelling them.
