Ruhnke Review for 4/3/20
651-771-8494 aruhnke@stjeromeschool.org
We are Learning About:
Reading: Read 20 minutes each day. Keep track using the Reading Log for March & then use the April Reading Log on Wednesday when April begins to keep track each day.
Phonics/Groves: If you haven’t done this, then Before you begin the video, the parent will need to find the 3 paper alphabets. (I sent them to you in an email on Tuesday, 3-31-20). You will need to take one and cut out each letter. (Keep them in a bag when not using them). The 2nd paper alphabet will be your child’s “Magnet Board.” Your child should know what a magnet board is. I could not send the actual magnet board home, so the paper ones will have to do for now. The 3rd one is extra in case you need it.
We have been working on Phonics by learning Rhyme Production, Blending Phonemes, Isolating Medial (middle) sounds, Substituting Initial Phonemes, and Deleting Phonemes. We continue to learn Onset Fluency (beginning sound), Ending Fluency (ending sound in a word), Middle Sound, Blending words, Segmenting Phonemes, Adding Phonemes, Letter Naming & the sound they make. We have learned all the letters of the alphabet.
Memory/Sight Words: There are sheets in the folders I sent home that have the Memory/Sight Words on them. Please have your child complete these each week.
Writing: Your child should be writing one-two stories each week. They should only use pencil (even for the picture), and they should only be given at the most two minutes to draw the picture. Remind your child they should use a capital at the beginning of the sentence and there should be a period at the end of the sentence. Also, they should have a “finger space” between each word. Parents, you are NOT aloud to spell any words for them. They should “tap” out the word and “stretch” it out, then write the word as they hear the sounds. They know how to do this.
Math: Continue using the math sheets I sent home on Monday, March 16th: Topics 1, 2, 3, & 6. We will begin Topic 14 after you come to pick up the next round of materials for your child on April 8th.
Religion: We will do a review of “Palm Sunday” and we will go on to learn about ”Holy Week.”
Humanities: We will do a quick review of Moses’s Birth” and “The 10 Plagues in Egypt.” Then we will learn about “The Exodus.”
Science: Please have your child watch one or two videos each week on the Scholastic site (below). Make sure your child is clicking on the comprehension questions, etc.
***This is VERY Important***
Every school day after your child has finished all the work, I will need you to send me an email with what your child did that day or send me a picture of the work they did. This is so that I can keep attendance. We NEED to have you respond every school day so that I can let the school know your child “attended school” that day. Thank you.
Also, please Save All Work your child does! I will collect it all on “Pick-Up” & “Drop-Off” Day: April 8th.
Star of the Week for March 30, 2020
Prince Y.
Prince was out ill most of the week that he was supposed to be the Star, so this week he will be Star!! This will be the last of all the students getting to have a week all their own. Then, I will have one student be the “Star of the Day” each day. They will get to help with the morning calendar routine!
Memory/Sight Words
Memory/Sight words are words we find in every sentence we read. Students must know these words to be able to read a sentence. Students should memorize these words, NOT sound them out. Please practice these words every day, both reading them and spelling them.
